Moldflow for conformal cooling channel

Plastic products are widely used in the national economy and people's daily lives. They have become good alternative materials in industries because of excellent characteristics. Injection molding is the most effective method in the methods of plastic molding.

In the process of injection molding, uneven cooling is one of the main factors that lead to various defects. To ensuring the quality of plastic products, mold temperature is needed to be controlled strictly. The general way to control mold temperature is machining cooling channels in injection mold. Due to limitations of conventional machining process, traditional cooling channel (TCC) is formed form straight line drilled holes. When the structure of plastic part is relatively complicated, the distance between channel and cavity will vary with the different location, thus results in non-uniform cooling. In order to control mold temperature fast and accurately, the concept of conformal cooling channel (CCC) was proposed. Cooling channels contour to the cavity surface that is called CCC. Injection mold with CCC can enhance the productivity of plastic part and bring significant economic benefits. In general, the key scientific issues related to applications of CCC include: 1) designing of conformal cooling channel; 2) how to evaluate the cooling effect of different cooling system, select cooling system project; 3) how to manufacture injection mold with conformal cooling channels.
